The Club meets every Thursday morning in the Falmouth Hotel, where a healthy group of local business people invite speakers, conduct business networking, enjoy breakfast and coffee, and look for ways to help one another enhance their businesses.
The club benefits from the hospitality of the grand Falmouth Hotel (Hotel manager Greg Henry is a member), as well as its inspiring views across Falmouth Bay. We even had dolphins swimming past as we had breakfast one week in 2009, though unfortunately we can't promise that every week.
The activities of the club include:
- High profile local speakers
- Useful business speakers and presentations
- Presentations by members
- General networking and business referrals
- Workshop sessions to help businesses with particular topics
- A social event for owners of SMEs
The club is independent and requires no membership fees. it is also loosely associated with the Falmouth Chamber of Commerce, the Penryn Chamber of Commerce, the Newquay Breakfast Club, and the Cape Cornwall breakfast club, and shares information and notices with all those, as well as any other local organisations of interest.
Our workshop sessions have proved particularly useful to some members, who have availed themselves of the support of the other experienced business people in "The Board you can't afford" sessions, held every month or two when a topic requires our attention to help a local business person.
Although members do a great deal of business with one another, there is absolutely no pressure to do so, and referrals are neither tracked nor forced. We respect the ability of members and visitors to make their own business decisions, yet the process of business being conducted based on strong relationship takes its natural and inevitable course.
Who comes along?
We are lucky to have a very varied group of businesses at the Falmouth Business Club.
A non-comprehensive list includes members from the following business groups:
Writer, first aid supplier, printer, computer programmer, web marketer, financial advisor, music promoter, window cleaner, Internet directory owner, interior designer, graphic designer, hotelier, photographer, accountant, solicitor, CRM specialist, mining surveyor, toastmaster, members of business support organisations, representatives from the docks, maritime museum, town council, convergence fund, charities, bankers, freight company, entertainments provider, NLP practitioner, masseur, trainer, consultant, quality standards certifier, training provider.
As you can see everyone is welcome, and the strength of the group is in its diversity.
As already mentioned there is no membership fee.
Attendance costs £8 per person, including all the tea and coffee you can drink, full breakfast and healthy eating options including continental, fruit, yogurt and croissant.
We meet at a relaxed 7.30am, with breakfast beginning at around 8.00.
As people are finishing up we normally do a round of introductions, giving everyone the chance to tell other guests about their business. This is a great opportunity to practice your "elevator pitch" - what makes your business stand out in 30 seconds?
People often turn up late or leave early due to other commitments - it is fine.
Who organises it?
The group is a self governing business club. At present there is a committee made up of:
- Chairman - Andy Coote, Bizwords.
- Secretary - Christin Chaplin, Cornish First Aid.
- Speaker co-ordination, Karen Schofield, KallKwik Truro.
- Communications - Peter Graves, Channel Computing.
Can I just turn up?
Yes, but it makes it easier for the hotel if we have a good idea of numbers by midday the day before, so please let us know if you would like to come along, using this contact form.
You may use the same form to sign up for weekly email alerts, letting you know what activities are planned each week for this and other clubs.
What have you got coming up over the next few weeks?
Looking forward to seeing you soon.
