The Falmouth Tall Ships is a spectacular event that last happened in September 2008.

Since the inaugural event in 1998 it has developed into part of the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta, one of the premier events on the Tall Ships summer calendar, with the world's greatest sailing Barques racing from Falmouth across the bay of Biscay to Ilhavo (Port of Aveiro) in Spain, and then out into the Atlantic to finish at Funchal in Madeira.

Tall Ships however is much more than a boat race, as under the guidance of its founder Falmouth's John Hick, it has become a week long festival of events, with visitors able to step aboard tall ships from all over the world, and a final hurrah as the tall ships go out to start the race, accompanied by thousands of local boats and vessels, firing canons, and the hills around the harbour and Falmouth bay lined with people watching this most spectacular of occasions.
