Staying in Falmouth
If you are staying in Falmouth either for Business or pleasure (we have a lot of both here!), the town is also blessed with a large number of very high quality places to stay. Probably the best place to start looking for one is with the Falmouth Hoteliers Association, to which most of the local Hotels and Guest houses are members. Please have a look round their site and find yourself somewhere nice. There will probably be a sea-view, a harbour view, some nice restaurants nearby, they also give you the option of searching Falmouth accommodation by its features - so enjoy your hotel and enjoy your stay here!
If you are visiting on Busieness the Falmouth Chamber meets monthly, and the Business club every Thursday morning at the Falmouth Hotel, both will be very pleased to see you.
Threat to Tourist Information in Falmouth
Recent developments in the reorganisation of Cornwall Council and the impending budget cuts required under the government’s current spending plans have resulted in the likelihood that the funding currently provided by Cornwall Council in support of the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) in Falmouth will be removed. Consequently the Tourist Information Centre in Falmouth may have to close with the resultant loss of jobs and service provision for visitors.
Because so much of the local Falmouth and wider Cornish economy depends on tourism the Chamber sees this development as a major threat to the tourist industry. In addition, the involvement of Falmouth in the 2012 Olympics with the Finn sailing event will inevitably bring a considerable increase in visitors to Falmouth, making such a change in the tourist service provision at this time inconceivable.
The Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Falmouth District Hotels Association (FDHA) have begun representations to explore the possibilities of alternative funding strategies and are looking into the provision of the service through complementary information systems and venues. In pursuit of this, any suggestions or realistic proposals from members of the Chamber and the public at large on how this might be achieved should be forwarded to the Committee of the Chamber ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) or the FDHA ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).
Whilst it may not be possible to maintain the TIC in its current form the Chamber and FDHS are hopeful that with cooperation from all the interested parties a meaningful tourist information service can continue to be provided in Falmouth in the future.
Falmouth upper Harbour
Falmouth harbour goes on for miles, and presents the visitor with a wealth of places to explore and enjoy, either by land or by water.
It is inter-connected by a network of ferries that take you from Falmouth across to Flushing and St Mawes, up the river to Penryn, or up to the upper harbour, Trelissick Gardens and the King Harry Ferry. At high tides you can take the boat all the way up to Truro.
The harbour has numerous arms, meaning that even in the summer there are many places right off the beaten track. The best views of the harbour are possibly either from Pendennis Castle in Falmouth, or having crossed by ferry or boat to the eastern Roseland side, on the viewing point high above the St Anthony Point lighthouse. If you don't have a boat of your own you can really enjoy the water on one of the many ferries or tourist boats plying their trade across the water.
Dolphins swim in Falmouth waters
Passengers on a sea safari in the waters around Falmouth saw a pod of dolphins swimming close by yesterday. It was the first major pod to be spotted on an Orca Sea Safari this year, according to Caroline Harvey, who runs the business with her husband Steve, the safari boat’s skipper.
Around 25 common dolphins swam alongside the boat for around 20 minutes while it was just south of the Manacles reef off Falmouth during the afternoon session, at around 2.15pm.

Falmouth is a popular destination for Cruise Liners, being not only a large port, but also one of the few with deepwater along-side facilities, allowing liners to land their passenger without the need for boats.
