Rick Stein in Falmouth

It’s great to be open in Falmouth. Outside Padstow it’s my favourite seaside town in Cornwall.

Rick Stein

I've always been fascinated by Falmouth. From childhood reading, it was one of those romantic ports where ships left to rescue nobles from revolutionary France in Scarlet Pimpernel novels. Historically it's always been a major port. It has one of the best natural harbours in Europe. It has fabulous fish and is a pretty and atmospheric Cornish town.

Jill and I have looked around Cornwall for a long time for a place to expand beyond Padstow. Our inspiration for The Seafood Restaurant originally came from a restaurant in Falmouth that we frequented during the 1970’s, so it seemed only natural to finally open our own restaurant here. It’s a place we both know well.

We’re really pleased with the way in which the fish and chip restaurant has been received and we've recently started taking reservations for the Champagne & Oyster Bar upstairs from Rick Stein's Fish & Chips. You can sit at the bar enjoying a drink and a bite to eat whilst overlooking Events Square and the ships in the harbour beyond.

And for the future who knows? We’re looking at another site in Falmouth that I think could be great for a deli, selling lots of great local produce and those wonderful Fal oysters.

long shot of tremoughFounded in 1902 as a private art school offering classes in freehand drawing and painting from still life, The Falmouth School of Art as it was then known has seen many changes in the last century as it has steadily developed to become University College Falmouth as we know it today.

From its original location on Wood Lane in the centre of Falmouth where in 1950 just 120 students were taught, University College Falmouth (UCF) migrated in 2003 to its 70 acre Tremough Campus site, situated in neighbouring Penryn just 2 miles from its former home.

Tremough is now home to three separate university institutions integrated under the Combined Universities in Cornwall initiative – the University of Exeter, Cornwall campus, which also incorporates the Camborne School of Mines, University College Falmouth and its most recent addition Dartington College of Arts.
